OREANDA-NEWS  In May 2021, two ships of the British Navy, separated from the Royal Navy's carrier strike group in the Mediterranean, will go to the Black Sea through the Bosphorus. This information is reported by The Sunday Times, citing sources. The newspaper claims that it is a Type 45 destroyer and a Type 23 frigate.

It is noted that this decision was made in order to demonstrate solidarity with Ukraine and its allies in the North Atlantic alliance after the United States did not create additional tension in the Black Sea region and canceled the passage of its ships.

A British defense official said London is in close contact with Kiev and is calling on the Russian Federation to de-escalate. According to him, Great Britain, together with its international allies, supports the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.

It is also noted that the ships will be supported by the aircraft carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth. It currently carries F-35 fighters and Merlin helicopters. Helicopters will have to fly out to help the ships if any threat is detected from Russian ships, submarines or aircraft. It is also clarified that the aircraft carrier itself will be forced to remain in the Mediterranean Sea due to existing international treaties.
