OREANDA-NEWS. Arab News portal reports that in Ethiopia, 29 people were injured in a grenade explosion during a rally in support of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali. The incident occurred in the town of Ambo, located about 100 kilometers from the country’s capital Addis Ababa.

“As a result of the bombing at the rally, 29 people were injured, 28 received medical treatment and were sent home,” a senior Ethiopian police officer said. According to him, law enforcement officers detained six people suspected of organizing the attack.

Local edition Ezega News with reference to the police reports that rebels from the Oromo Liberation Front (OLF) threw a grenade into the crowd. It is noted that the attackers tried to intervene in the demonstrations in support of the prime minister and the ruling Prosperity Party. According to some reports, OLF members want to show that the authorities are “weak” and not able to maintain law and order in the country.
