OREANDA-NEWS. The Government supports the legislative initiative to amend Article 13 of the Constitution of Moldova by replacing the phrase «Moldovan language, functioning on the basis of the Latin script» with «Romanian language».

However, in the Supreme Law the Romanian language could be called the state language of the Republic of Moldova.

The legislative proposal is in line with the Constitutional Court’s Decision №36 of 5 December 2013, which states that in the case of divergences between the text of the Declaration of Independence and that of the Constitution, the one in the Declaration of Independence prevails.

It is said that the state language in the Republic of Moldova is Romanian in the Declaration of Independence of the Republic of Moldova, approved by Law №691 of 27 August 1991.
