OREANDA-NEWS  President Petro Poroshenko about the results of the visit to the U.S.: Ukrainian-American agreements in the defense sphere will be signed shortly.

In 36 hours, the meetings with the key members of the new Administration of President Trump were held. It was stated by President Petro Poroshenko following the results of the working visit to the United States.

“The main result of the visit is that Ukraine unites the United States today,” Petro Poroshenko said adding that “earlier it was about the bilateral support in the U.S. Congress and Senate, whereas now we can confidently speak of the executive authorities, namely the Administration of President Trump”.

He noted that a long and meaningful conversation with President Donald Trump was held in the course of which the U.S. President expressed support for Ukraine’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence. He also expressed support for Ukraine in the issue of countering Russian aggression.

The President informed that his visit resulted in specific plans on preserving and even increasing the regime of sanctions against Russia until full implementation of the Minsk agreements. “This is extremely important and it is not a coincidence that the United States introduced new sanctions exactly during the visit of the Ukrainian delegation,” the President emphasized.

Petro Poroshenko paid special attention to the results of the negotiations with the U.S. Secretary of Defense and the U.S. Vice President in the course of which the parties agreed that several key members of the new presidential administration and several secretaries would visit Ukraine shortly.

“Very important agreements will be signed, including the defensive cooperation, defensive procurement and military-technical cooperation,” the Head of State informed.

The President touched upon the agreements on the intensification of cooperation on the energy security, nuclear energy, particularly on the construction of the nuclear waste storage plant to eliminate dependence on the Russian Federation. The parties also agreed on the purchase of the American coal designed to substitute the coal shipments from the occupied territories terminated because Russia had confiscated the Ukrainian coal mines.

The President pointed out the agreement on increasing the number of American investors on the Ukrainian market.

The Head of State informed on the results of the meeting with IMF Managing Director Christine Lagarde in the course of which the issue of the IMF support for the program of reforms has been discussed. He also informed on the aftermath of the meeting with the President of the World Bank on the strategy of the World Bank as regards Ukraine, as well as the funding of the expert support for the Ukrainian reforms.

The President expressed gratitude to the American party for a powerful support for Ukraine.
