OREANDA-NEWS In the framework of the 72 session of the UN General Assembly, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko held a meeting with UN Secretary-General António Guterres.

The parties discussed in details active involvement of the UN in the settlement of the situation in Donbas, particularly prospects of deploying a robust UN peacekeeping mission in Ukraine.

The President emphasized that only a robust peacekeeping mission with comprehensive mandate will facilitate the achievement of the main goal - restoration of peace in Donbas.

The parties stated that the deployment of the mission must take place with clear observance of the basic UN peacekeeping principles.

In the context of the fulfillment of the UN GA resolution on the situation with human rights in Crimea, the President emphasized the necessity of taking additional measures by the international community with a view to force Russia to fulfill the abovementioned document. In particular, Russia must ensure safe and unhindered access to the peninsula for the existing regional and international monitoring organizations in the sphere of human rights.

The President thanked the UN for the provision of the humanitarian assistance to the internally displaced persons and to the affected civilians in Donbas. The Head of State urged the UN to join the process of liberation of hostages.

The parties discussed the enhancement of personnel representation of Ukraine in the structures of the United Nations system.
