OREANDA-NEWS   President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker: Ukraine can establish a Special Anti-Corruption Chamber
“Ukraine has made much more in the last three years than in the previous 20 years. I am really pleased to be here and witness collective success of Ukraine and the EU,” President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker noted in the joint press conference with President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko and President of the European Council Donald Tusk. At the same time, he emphasized that the issue of fighting corruption remained crucial.

“I know that the Ukrainian President is very serious about this issue. Both the President and the Parliament have made everything necessary and achieved progress in this sphere, but the situation is not satisfactory,” Jean-Claude Juncker stressed the necessity of intensifying efforts in that direction.

The President of the European Commission addressed the Verkhovna Rada and the President of Ukraine: “We agreed to establish a Special Anti-Corruption Chamber (of the Supreme Court – editorial remark) designed to struggle against corruption and we do not insist on the establishment of a separate Anti-Corruption Court”.

Jean-Claude Juncker noted that the main thing in fighting corruption is “not instruments, but intentions and convictions that the Ukrainian society is willing to struggle against corruption, which in fact avoids all the efforts within the country to move forward”.

“If you do not ruin corruption at all branches, investors won’t come to Ukraine. It must be the most important battle,” the President of the European Commission concluded insisting on the importance and assuring of financial support for this direction of reforms.
