OREANDA-NEWS. President Petro Poroshenko stands for increasing the share of the Ukrainian-language content on TV. It was stated by him at the ceremony of presenting Taras Shevchenko National Prize of Ukraine.

Petro Poroshenko noted that despite resistance, the law on quotas for Ukrainian music on the national radio has brought positive results and promoted Ukrainian music. “In a year since our last meeting, the adopted law has brought significant results in spreading Ukrainian songs and language on radio. Do you remember how many disputes and attacks we faced? However, step-by-step the share of Ukrainian language on the air is being increased,” he said.

“I will offer the same technology on TV soon. The share of Ukrainian language on TV is inadmissibly small now,” the President emphasized. He reminded that he had urged representatives of TV industry to ensure self-organization in that issue last summer. “Unfortunately, not everyone heard me. That is why, the legislator must say its word,” the Head of State noted.

The President added that national cinematography and book publishing demonstrate recovery as well and prove their competitiveness. “Over 30 Ukrainian movies were released last year. Of course, this figure will not impress Hollywood or Bollywood, but it is a record of our independence period. Today, we are looking for an efficient formula to promote national cinematography, but the most important thing is that it was assessed and supported by Ukrainian and international viewers,” Petro Poroshenko said.

He also added that Ukraine is represented by distinctive cultures of its national minorities. A vivid example of that is the victory of Jamala on Eurovision, according to the President.

At the same time, the Head of State emphasized that not a single Ukrainian regardless of national identity, must have any restrictions  in meeting linguistic and cultural needs.
