OREANDA-NEWS. After a long hiatus, the Afghan capital and provinces resumed issuing passports to citizens. This is reported by TOLOnews with reference to the acting head of the passport department of the Afghan Ministry of Internal Affairs (MVD) Alam Gul Haqqani.

According to the newspaper, at the moment about 25 thousand passports are ready for issuance. At the same time, over 170 thousand people have applied for documents in two months. The authorities also called for women who worked in passport offices to return to their duties.

The suspension of the issuance of passports took place on August 15, after the seizure of power in the republic by militants of the radical Taliban movement (a terrorist organization banned in Russia). It is noted that the new documents will indicate the former name of the state - the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan.

Earlier it became known that due to the closure of most medical facilities in the Afghan provinces, hospitals in the capital of the republic of Kabul were overcrowded. At the same time, there are not enough doctors and medicines in the capital, and the increase in the number of patients exacerbates the problem. According to doctors, if the situation does not change, the Afghan health care system is in danger of collapse.
