OREANDA-NEWS. According to Radio Sputnik, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said while talking to the interviewer of the Italian newspaper La Repubblica, that Baku would stop the advance of its troops in the conflict zone in Nagorno-Karabakh only when Yerevan agrees to take its military formations back from this territory.

Ilham Aliyev stated that if the Prime Minister of Armenia takes a commitment to liberate the rest of the territories, then we are ready to stop today. He wants some guarantees on this issue, that is, to make sure that Armenia is ready to begin the withdrawal of its armed formations first, after which it is ready to do the same with its troops. However, he stated that Armenia has not yet undertaken such obligations.

Explaining the named condition, the Azerbaijani president mentions the need to follow the UN Security Council resolutions on the settlement of the conflict and the need to follow their basic principles by the both sides of the conflict.

The head of Azerbaijan recalls that these basic principles say that five regions should be liberated first, and then two more. According to him, Azerbaijan has already unilaterally liberated four regions. He would like Armenia to follow their example and also begin the liberation of the agreed territories. Therefore, the Prime Minister of Armenia must say that the troops should be taken from the territories of Aghdam, Kelbejar, Lachin regions that have been captured by the Armenian Armed Forces. But, according to Aliyev, he does not make such a statement yet. In his opinion, this clearly demonstrates that he does not seek to end this armed conflict.
