OREANDA-NEWS. As a result of an explosion on a gas pipeline near Damascus, there was a power outage throughout Syria.

This was reported by the state news agency SANA, citing the country’s Electricity Minister, Mohammad Zuhair Kharboutli. According to him, this is the sixth explosion of its kind. It is known that that the incident took place between the areas of Ad Dumayr and Adra. Three power plants went out of order.

Syrian Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Ali Ghanem, stated that the explosion was a result of a terrorist act. “After assessing the situation, it was established that the explosion that occurred on the gas pipeline between the areas of Adra and Ad Dumayr was caused by a terrorist attack,” the politician said. On the air of the television channel Al Ekhbariya, Ghanem informed that the malfunctions at all power plants have been eliminated, and soon it will be possible to resume the supply of electricity throughout the country.
