OREANDA-NEWS. “One hundred and five illegal border crossers were apprehended within the territory of Hungary between Friday and Sunday”, the National Police Headquarters told Hungarian news agency MTI on Monday.

According to statistics published on the Police website, 20, 22 and 53 migrants were apprehended on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, respectively, and were accompanied back across the temporary border security fence by police and military personnel on duty along the Hungarian-Serbian border. 10 illegal immigrants were apprehended within the 8 kilometre “deep border” zone and along other peripheral stretches of the border and 2 suspects were charged with people smuggling over the weekend.

According to the new regulations that came into force on 5 July, migrants that are apprehended within 8 kilometres of the border are accompanied back to the security fence and shown the way to the nearest transit zone. Those who are proven to have damaged the border security fence or who are suspected of people smuggling also face criminal action, while those caught along the Romanian and Ukrainian borders also face immigration proceedings.

195 migrants were apprehended in the vicinity of the Serbian-Hungarian border and escorted back by the authorities during the past week; during the previous week of 5-11 September this number was 280. 15 illegal immigrants were apprehended within the 8 kilometre zone and along other peripheral stretches of the border.
