OREANDA-NEWS. US Presidential Assistant for National Security Robert O'Brien confirmed the possibility of a meeting between Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov during his visit to Washington with US leader Donald Trump. He announced this on Sunday to the American television channel.

"I think there is a possibility that this will happen. We are working on it", he said. According to O'Brien, the meeting between Trump and Lavrov would meet the principles of reciprocity. "When US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo was in Russia, Russian President Vladimir Putin met with him", said the aide to the US president. “So, based on the principle of reciprocity, we are considering such an option. But we are also considering other options. We will see if we can do this”, he added. O'Brien also said that in the event of a meeting between Trump and Lavrov, "they will generally discuss the topic of arms control".

The last time the Russian Foreign Minister visited Washington in 2017 was then received by US President Donald Trump. On December 5, the Russian Foreign Ministry confirmed to the Russian media that the possibility of Lavrov’s visit to Washington on December 10 was being worked out.
