OREANDA-NEWSAustrian President Alexander van der Bellen sworn in on the new coalition government of the republic on Tuesday as part of the conservative Austrian People’s Party and the Green Party. APP leader Sebastian Kurtz became Austrian Chancellor, Greens leader Werner Kogler became Vice-Chancellor, Minister of Culture, Art, Public Affairs and Sports.

At the same time, the head of the Republic of Austria relieved the transitional government, led by the first woman Chancellor Brigitte Birlain, of his duties. He was replaced by the first cabinet in the history of Austria with the participation of the APP and the Greens.

The government in Austria for most of the modern history of the republic is formed from two political forces on the principle of a senior and a junior partner in the coalition, because not a single party after the end of World War II has managed to gain an overwhelming majority of votes in the elections for the sole formation of the cabinet. The new government represents 10 ministers from the APP, four ministers from the Greens.
