Beijing Warns Washington's Taiwan Policies Will Fail as Chinese Military Launches Major Drills

OREANDA-NEWS Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has warned that the US’ plans to deter China will not prevent Taiwan's imminent reunification with the mainland.
According to him, US provocations will only inspire the 1.4 billion Chinese to unify and accelerate the creation of a modern-day socialist state with Chinese characteristics.The top Chinese diplomat added that the US “has exposed its ugly face of treachery to the entire international community”.The remarks came after Wang warned on Wednesday that Beijing “will leave no room for action to pro-Taiwan independence forces or interference from outside forces.” He also argued that attempts to use Taiwan to deter China are doomed to failure, adding, “the United States should not have any illusions about undermining China's development and revival.”China Starts Regional Military Drills Wang spoke as the Chinese military kicked off live-fire exercises in the sea surrounding Taiwan on Thursday, according to the state-run Chinese broadcaster CCTV.
The PLA had earlier said that the drills will run from August 4-7 in six different areas that form a circle around Taiwan. A map of the exercise zones shows one in the Taiwan Strait, one in the South China Sea south of the port of Kaohsiung, two in the East China Sea near the Japanese-controlled Senkaku Islands, one in the Philippine Sea, and one in the Luzon Strait that separates Taiwan from the Philippines.According to China’s Global Times newspaper, the PLA actually began the drills a day early, launching “joint blockade, sea assault and land and air combat training,” including J-20 stealth fighters and Dongfeng-17 hypersonic missiles, on Wednesday.
