OREANDA-NEWSHong Kong authorities must put an end to the violence and chaos that swept this special administrative region six months ago, and to understand the social problems of the population. This was announced on Monday by Premier of the State Council of the People's Republic of China Li Keqiang, receiving in Beijing the head of the Hong Kong administration Carrie Lam.

"Hong Kong has not yet overcome the difficulties. The city government should continue efforts to put an end to violence and chaos in accordance with the law, restore order", the South China Morning Post quoted the premier as saying.

Li Keqiang also emphasized the need to carefully study the "deep-rooted social conflicts and problems" in Hong Kong society, to ensure long-term prosperity and stability in the metropolis. "An obvious recession has arisen in the Hong Kong economy, many sectors have been hit hard. We can say that the city is faced with an unprecedented, serious and difficult situation", the head of government added.

Carrie Lam is on a working visit in Beijing to report to the central government of the PRC on the situation in this special administrative region, where mass protests broke out six months ago. Later it will be adopted by President Xi Jinping.
