OREANDA-NEWS"North Korea may build a new submarine capable of carrying ballistic missiles," writes the South Korean newspaper. For the first time about the possibility of such developments reported the portal 38 North in 2016. Then, in the area of the port of Sinpho from the satellite, an object with a diameter of about 10 meters was found, which, as expected, could be a solid submarine hull. Moreover, its size exceeds the size of the largest at that time model of submarines in service with the DPRK.

According to the newspaper, calculations show that with such a diameter of the hull the displacement of the new submarine should be about 3000 tons, respectively, it should be capable of carrying 3-4 ballistic missiles. In addition, we must take into account that, as it is supposed, the DPRK is currently developing the Pukkikson-3 submarine-launched ballistic missile, which will exceed the previous versions of the Pukkykson-1 and Pukkykson-2 modifications with a distance of approximately 2,000 kilometers.

If Pyongyang manages to build a new submarine, it will significantly increase the ability to deliver a strategic strike. As the newspaper notes, the enemy’s submarine is harder to detect than ground launchers. According to the publication, if a submarine of the new model goes beyond the Sea of Japan into the Pacific Ocean, when launching the Pukkikson-3 rocket it will be possible to strike Guam or Hawaii, and according to a military source of the newspaper, "theoretically it is possible to cross the Pacific Ocean and appear off the west coast USA".

As the former captain of the South Korean submarine Moon Keung Sik says, the old model of the Russian submarine could be taken as a model.
