OREANDA-NEWSEmployees of EU institutions in Belgium, Luxembourg and Italy will continue to work remotely until at least May 25th. This was announced on Thursday by a representative of the European Commission.

"Given the situation in the host countries, we decided that the existing measures, including telecommuting, will be extended until at least May 25 for headquarters in Belgium, Luxembourg and Italy", he said. The representative of the EC also said that to date, 61 employees of the European Commission have been infected with the coronavirus.

Since mid-March, when quarantine was introduced in Belgium, EU institutions are closed to visits, including for journalists. Almost all employees switched to remote work. Since May 4, Belgium has begun phasing out quarantine, requiring the population to wear protective equipment in public places that covers their mouth and nose. The quarantine cancellation process will be slow and phased. It is expected to last at least until August 31 or longer.
