OREANDA-NEWS.In the outgoing 2019, 15 natural disasters occurred in the world, direct losses from each of which exceed $ 1 billion, the South African radio company SABC reported on Sunday, citing estimates from the international humanitarian organization Christian aid, which provides assistance to victims of natural disasters.

Among the natural disasters of 2019, seven caused losses of more than $ 10 billion each. The most sensitive disasters in the outgoing year were in the USA, Japan, China and India. The largest damage was caused by forest fires in October-November in the US state of California - $ 25 billion. When calculating the losses, Christian aid specialists took into account insurance payments and other direct compensation payments to injured people and companies.

Hagibis typhoon that hit Japan in October was in second position with losses of $ 15 billion. However, if the losses caused to this country in September by the typhoon “Faxai” are added to the losses, the amount will reach $ 24 billion.
