OREANDA-NEWS  The South Korean Olympic team will prepare meals for their participants separately and test ingredients for radiation during the Tokyo Olympics, said a spokesman of the team on Monday. This could further harm the already deteriorating relations between Seoul and Tokyo.

South Korea has occasionally clashed with Japan because of doubts about safety which appeared after the 2011 tsunami and nuclear disaster at Fukushima. For example, the country restricted the import of Japanese seafood.

A spokesman ofthe Korean Olympic Committee said that he had booked a hotel near the Olympic Village specifically to prepare food there for his participants and then distribute it in closed containers, and added that the country implements its own nutrition programs at all Olympic Games to make athletes feel like at home.

Countries often bring their own chefs to the Olympics - the United States cooked its own food at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

However, the South Korean team at the Tokyo Games checks food products for radioactive level intensity, and the team's chefs have to prepare a lot of meals a day.

“We are conducting preliminary tests for cesium in food ingredients we bring from home and in other products, including Japanese ingredients,” said an Olympic spokesman for South Korea, who wished to stay unknown.

The Japanese government spokesman Katsunobu Kato refused to make comment about South Korean's decision about it's food but added that the organizers use ingredients that meet all standards and do not hide their origin.
