Several criminal cases were brought against Mubarak, including corruption and the killing of demonstrators, but they all eventually fell apart, the former president was acquitted. His only sentence concerned gifts from Al-Ahram publishing house. However, the former head of state was counted as a prison term spent during the investigation. In recent years, Mubarak lived in solitude with his family, refraining from any communication with the press.
