OREANDA-NEWS Four people, including a 12-year-old child, were killed and about 30 were injured as a result of a thunderstorm in the Polish Tatras, Tvn24 reports with reference to statements by authorities.

The wounded are transported to hospitals by helicopter, and the Mountain Volunteer Ambulance Service joined the rescue operation.

Tvn24 writes that it was sunny in the Tatras in the morning. According to the forecast, the weather should have been clear, but weather conditions have changed dramatically, taking tourists by surprise. The publication adds that it is dangerous to be on top of Giewont during a thunderstorm, since hiking trails are fenced with chains, and it also has a metal cross, which is often struck by lightning.
