OREANDA-NEWS Greece, in association with Turkey, is ready to help with the export of grain from the territory of Ukraine. This was announced on Tuesday, June 7, by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, TASS reports.

According to the politician, about 20 million tons of wheat are currently stuck in Ukraine. The grain may be taken out of the country only by sea. At the same time, Greece has a large merchant fleet. Country's authorities wanted to use it to combat the food crisis.

"Turkey plays an important role in the Black Sea, so does Greece, which has the largest merchant fleet. Let's look at those areas where, under the auspices of the UN, we could work together and offer services", the Prime Minister said.

Some time ago, the plan of Turkey had been revealed. According to the plan, Ankara would receive the right to clear mines in the territorial waters of Ukraine, and Turkish ships would escort Ukrainian bulk carriers to neutral waters. At the same time, it was assumed that Russian military sailors would meet the ships in neutral waters, and would escort them through the Black Sea to the Bosphorus in order to avoid provocations.

It was reported that Moscow and Ankara had managed to agree on the unblocking of shipping in the Black Sea for the free transportation of Ukrainian agricultural products, but Kyiv has not approved this deal yet. According to the agency, the Ukrainian authorities fear that the demining of territorial waters, which is supposed to be the plan, will make the ports vulnerable.
