OREANDA-NEWS About 800 people were detained in Belarus during the referendum on amendments to the Constitution of the Republic. The Belarusian Ministry of Internal Affairs informs about this in its Telegram channel.

The ministry said that hundreds of people were detained for various violations of public order. "Currently, an audit is being conducted to give a legal assessment of their actions. Some of them have previously been prosecuted for similar offenses," the Interior Ministry added.

They also reported on the initiation of a criminal case on the facts of organizing mass unauthorized actions and calls for actions that grossly violate public order. It is noted that the persons involved were identified and detained.

The new version of the Constitution provides for the country's rejection of neutral and nuclear-free status. Speaking at a polling station, Lukashenko said that he could ask Russia to return nuclear weapons to Belarus.

"If you (the West) transfer nuclear weapons to Poland or Lithuania, to our borders, then I will appeal to (Russian President Vladimir) Putin wants us to return the nuclear weapons that I gave away without any conditions," Lukashenko was quoted by Reuters.

The current Constitution of Belarus provides for its neutrality and nuclear-free status, these provisions are no longer in the new version of the basic law.

The West has already stated that it does not recognize the results of the referendum. The Central Election Commission of Belarus announced at noon on Sunday that the referendum had taken place and more than 50% of voters had voted in it.
