According to the politician, the lockdown should only be introduced as a last resort. However, regional authorities often do not agree to wait for the decision of the federal government. Restrictions have already been imposed in major cities such as Mumbai and Delhi.

Modi has already been criticized for his response to the spread of the coronavirus infection. However, last time he fell out of favor due to the fact, that too sharply imposed restrictions. Experts say, that he announced the lockdown four hours before it starts and provoked a powerful social crisis.
