OREANDA-NEWSIrish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar condemned the tough actions of the American authorities regarding the peaceful protests that broke out in many US cities after the death of African American George Floyd during police detention.

He gave his assessment of what was happening on Thursday during a speech at a government hour in the Irish parliament. Varadkar also pointed out that today's Ireland is very different from what he saw in his childhood.

"We as a nation have greatly enriched in recent decades due to ethnic diversity", the prime minister said, adding that the "poison of racism" is manifested in some cases in Ireland in the form of discrimination in obtaining jobs in government agencies, bullying on the Internet and on the street.
