OREANDA-NEWS. The Lithuanian Interior Ministry is considering the possibility of involving the army to resolve the situation on the border with Belarus, where an explosive increase in illegal migration has been observed since the beginning of the year. This is reported by Delfi with reference to the Interior Minister Agne Bilotaite.

«I want to assure you that the Interior Ministry will provide comprehensive protection, with the involvement of all our departments — first of all, the police, border guards, public Security Service employees, we will ask for help from the Union of Shooters. We are also considering attracting military volunteers to help us control the situation, so that people who are settling illegal migrants next to them feel safe», the minister said.

The authorities are making a decision to create additional infrastructure for receiving migrants. It is planned to build modular houses by July 28, and hangars will be built in the Druskininkai municipality. The Interior Minister also ordered the construction of a tent city, in which about 1 thousand places will be provided to migrants.

On the eve of the day in Lithuania, near the border with Belarus, a record number of migrants was detained for a day since the beginning of the year — 160 people. The situation has worsened since the beginning of this year. In total, more than 1 thousand illegal migrants (mainly from Asia) who arrived in Lithuania from the territory of Belarus have been detained so far.
