OREANDA-NEWS. The European Union made a political decision on sectoral economic sanctions against Belarus in order to "bring down" its economy and create conditions for a repeat of the coup attempts, Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko said on Thursday.

"I would also like to inform you that, according to information received in recent days, the European Union has made a political decision to impose sectoral economic sanctions against our country in order, apparently, to bring down the country's economy and create conditions for a repeat of the coup attempts," he said. Golovchenko in Minsk at a meeting with the head of the Russian government Mikhail Mishustin.

According to the Belarusian Prime Minister, Western countries consider those sectors of the country's economy that make a significant contribution to GDP, such as oil refining, fertilizer production and other sectors, as pressure points.

Golovchenko noted: “At the same time, I want to emphasize that at the same time they want to “bite” Russia. Just today, the head of European diplomacy said that the project of the sanctions package will be the first to ban the export of fertilizers and the transit of Russian gas through Belarus. It is evident, the aim of it is to prohibit the purchase of gas pipelines running through Belarus, which belong to the Russian Federation, Yamal-Europe and the gas transmission system Gazprom Transgaz Belarus.

Today, May 28, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko in his congratulations on the Day of the Border Guard said that at present there is a real, immediate threat to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Belarus. Lukashenko admitted that the Belarusian border guards are real patriots of their country, and worthy heirs of the glory of their heroic ancestors.
