OREANDA-NEWSFrench President Emmanuel Macron expects Russian President Vladimir Putin to support his global ceasefire in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic. He stated this on Wednesday in an interview with a French radio station.

"I spoke with Putin about this initially when I came up with this initiative. Since I received solid confirmation from other leaders, I have not talked to him. Now I hope to do this in the next few hours", Macron said.

"President Xi Jinping has confirmed his agreement to me. As well as US President Donald Trump and British Prime Minister Boris Johnson. I am sure that President Putin will also give his consent", Macron said. "And when he gives such consent, we will be able to hold such a general video conference and thus distribute this call solemnly, decisively and effectively", Macron added.

A joint statement by the leaders of the EAEU countries (includes Russia, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan), adopted following a video conference on April 14, called on all states to continue international cooperation in the context of a pandemic.
