OREANDA-NEWSFrench President Emmanuel Macron stressed the need to maintain the conditions for humanitarian operations under the auspices of the UN in Syria. He said this in a telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, which took place on Sunday, according to the Elysee Palace on Monday.

"On the Syrian issue, the President of the Republic again expressed concern about the humanitarian situation in Idlib and stressed the need to maintain conditions for an effective response by the UN to the humanitarian needs of the civilian population throughout this country", the French leader’s administration said in a statement.

In addition, the presidents reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action for the Iranian Nuclear Program. The leaders announced their intention to "urge Iran to return to full compliance with its obligations as soon as possible" as part of this deal.

Macron also discussed the state of affairs in Libya with the Russian leader, expressing hope that the truce between the two sides would be declared on January 12, and that the "Berlin conference on Libya will allow the resumption of the political process under the auspices of the UN".
