OREANDA-NEWSThe Pentagon and the State Department warned the Egyptian authorities about the possibility of imposing sanctions in the case of the purchase of Su-35 fighters from Russia. This was in a joint letter sent to the Minister of Defense and Military Industry of Egypt, Colonel General Mohammed Zaki, said US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and US Secretary of Defense Mark Esper. The content of the letter cites the American media.

“New major arms deals with Russia will at least hinder future transactions between the US and Egypt in this area, as well as security assistance”, the letter says. According to an unnamed State Department spokesman, a deal to buy Russian fighter jets could result in Washington imposing sanctions on Cairo. This transaction, according to sources, was carried out at the end of last year and involves the supply of more than two dozen aircraft in the amount of $ 2 billion. Deliveries themselves, according to the publication, should begin in 2020–2021.

The fact that Russia and Egypt signed an agreement on the supply of Su-35 fighters, in March, the Russian media wrote. The newspaper did not report the number of aircraft prescribed in the agreement.
