OREANDA-NEWSFrench President Emmanuel Macron has clearly demonstrated in recent weeks with his initiatives that he seeks to return French politics to the course of realism towards Russia. This was written on the pages of a French newspaper issue on Tuesday by columnist of the newspaper Renault Girard.

“It’s clear that President Macron marked the beginning of a new political turn in Russia. That’s how his talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin at Fort Bregancon on August 19 and the return to realism in diplomacy, which he outlined in his report, should be regarded the meeting of ambassadors in Paris on August 27. This is also indicated by the fact that the French president took measures to resume negotiations at the highest level in Ukraine", the newspaper writes.

The French observer emphasizes that "unlike the opinion of the small but very influential" neoconservative sect "existing in the French Foreign Ministry, the French President believes that it is much more important to conduct a dialogue with Russia than to try to isolate it".

"U.S. President Donald Trump has a similar view, but Congress and some of the country's most influential media outlets have prevented him from pursuing such a course, claiming that he is essentially an agent of the Kremlin since he was elected to the presidency". Both French and American leaders “advocate that Russia rejoin the Group of Seven and that trade sanctions be relaxed or even lifted”, adopted by the European Union and the United States against Russia in 2014.

"Both leaders clearly realized that they would make a serious strategic mistake if they pursue a policy of their own that will essentially contribute to a strong rapprochement between Russia and China", the commentary emphasizes.
