Media: US Will Extend Exemption from Sanctions on the Iranian Nuclear Program for 60 Days

OREANDA-NEWS. US Presidential Administration Donald Trump intends to extend the exception to sanctions on the Iranian nuclear program by 60 days. This was reported on Wednesday by Bloomberg, citing two sources.
According to the agency, extending the exceptions will allow limited work on the peaceful use of nuclear energy in Iran. It is noted that we are talking about provisions that allow Russia, China and the UK to cooperate with Iran in this area.
The decision was made amid disagreements between US Treasury Secretary Stephen Mnuchin, who advocated extending the exclusion period, and US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo, who wanted to end it. At the same time, the United States intends to announce new restrictions on Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization and its head, Ali Akbar Salehi.
On November 5, 2018, the United States renewed sanctions against Iran in full. Under them came the export of Iranian oil, as well as more than 700 banks, companies and individuals. This happened after Washington left the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) for the Iranian nuclear program on May 8, 2018, and the future of the nuclear deal was in doubt.
