OREANDA-NEWS. In several regions of Russia, conditions have been formed for soil drought, which threatens crops. This was stated by the supervisor of the Hydrometeorological Center of Russia, Roman Vilfand.

According to him, Crimea, Krasnodar Krai, Astrakhan, Belgorod, Oryol, Smolensk, Kaluga, Lipetsk, Bryansk and Kursk regions are at risk. Vilfand said that little precipitation, just 35 % of the norm, was registered in these territories. The meteorologist added that precipitation deficiency is observed in the already arid regions of the Southern Federal District of the country.

According to the Hydrometeorological Center, just 5 millimeters of precipitation (26 % of the norm) fell in the Astrakhan Region in April. In Crimea, this figure is even less – 25 % of the norm.

Villefand considers the emerging conditions for soil drought an alarming factor. However, in his opinion, a rainy May can correct the situation.
