OREANDA-NEWS. Before the Munich Security Conference, its head Wolfgang Ischinger presented an expert report called Westlessness.

The document states the decline of Western civilization. In the preface to the report, Ishinger emphasizes that throughout 2019, the West faced internal and external challenges. According to him, the issue of the consequences of the West’s loss of global leadership will be one of the most pressing topics of the Conference.

It is stated that the main challenge is the growth of nationalist movements. According to analysts, the West “is threatened by “outsiders” with different religious beliefs or cultural backgrounds.”

Another reason for the decline is uncertainty in foreign policy. The authors of the report believe that the West is making a mistake by refusing to directly engage in open confrontations, preferring to train foreign personnel in the security sphere or send weapons to the allies. It is emphasized that the withdrawal of the West from the position of a world leader has led to the strengthening of Russia, China and Iran in this area.
