OREANDA-NEWSNATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg in an interview with American television company said that the Alliance does not compile lists of opponents. “We don't see Russia as our enemy”, he said. “Russia acts quite aggressively, using, for example, military force against the neighboring state of Ukraine”, said the NATO Secretary General. “But Russia is not the same as the Soviet Union”, Politico quoted him as saying.

At the same time, Stoltenberg noted that the world has become very unpredictable in terms of security. He ranked the growth of terrorism, the existence of an “Islamic state” (an organization banned in Russia), cyber threats, and China’s attempt to change the current balance of power among the main problems. “In these turbulent times, we need strong international institutions such as NATO”, he added.

Summing up the results of the NATO summit in London, Stoltenberg expressed confidence that the United States would remain faithful to its obligations with respect to the alliance. He explained this, among other things, by the fact that opinion polls in the United States show that the population is positive about the country's participation in this military bloc.
