OREANDA-NEWS New York was the first American state to ban cats from being subjected to the painful claw removal procedure

New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo supported the line of animal defenders and signed a bill banning the removal of claws from cats. The law came into force.

The claw removal procedure involves the partial amputation of the last bone on the toes of the cats' forepaws. This leads to the fact that tendons, nerves and ligaments cease to function. As a result of a heavy load on the joints and spine, animals suffer from early arthritis and chronic back pain.
