OREANDA-NEWS. North Korea has reported a successful test of a new anti-aircraft missile. During the test on Thursday, September 30, the «amazing combat characteristics» of a new type of anti-aircraft missile developed using «important innovative technologies» for controlling paired rudders and a dual pulse flight engine were confirmed, the North Korean KCNA news agency reported.

The report also notes that «the current complex launch is of great practical importance in the research and development of various promising anti-aircraft missile systems». The head of the DPRK, Kim Jong-un, was not present at the tests. They were watched by a member of the Presidium of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, Park Chong Chon.

The DPRK has recently stepped up missile weapons tests. Just this week, Pyongyang announced the successful test of a hypersonic missile. Many Western countries have strongly condemned this test. North Korea is under US and UN sanctions because of it's missile and nuclear program and is almost completely isolated on the world stage. On October 1, the UN Security Council will discuss the situation around the DPRK at an extraordinary meeting.
