OREANDA-NEWS. El Nuevo Dia newspaper reports that the authorities of Puerto Rico introduced a state of emergency on the island after a large earthquake that disrupted the energy supply system, infrastructure objects and led to the collapse of several houses.

On January 6, an earthquake of magnitude 5.7 occurred off the coast of Puerto Rico. Later, seismologists reported about an earthquake of magnitude 6.6; another with magnitude 5.6 followed it 10 minutes later.

The next earthquake of magnitude 5.8 occurred on January 7. The epicenter was located 1 kilometer southwest of the village of Tallaboa at a depth of 10 kilometers.

A special group which will evaluate the consequences of the earthquakes will be created by order of the Governor of Puerto Rico, Wanda Vazquez Garced.
