OREANDA-NEWSA court in Mexico sentenced Russian citizen Alexei Makeyev to 37.5 years in prison and a fine of 405 thousand pesos (about 1.3 million rubles) for the murder committed in May 2017, according to the website of the state prosecutor's office of Kintata-Roo.

July 16, the court found Makeev guilty of premeditated murder. Russian protection insisted that the murder occurred as a result of self-defense. The Russian Embassy in Mexico didn't see violations of Makeev’s fundamental rights during the trial, the Russian media reported. Diplomats noted that the article, according to which a Russian was found guilty, suggests the possibility of transferring a convicted person to his home country. “Makeev has the right to transfer for the further serving of his sentence in Russia, but so far he hasn’t made such a request”, the embassy said.

May 20, 2017 near the house in Cancun, where Makeev lived, the local people gathered, they came into conflict with the Russian, forced him to go out and attacked him. During the fight, Makeev wounded one of the attackers with a knife, who later died. The Russian himself received a head injury and was transferred to a state of artificial coma, he stayed in intensive care for several days. On May 29, he was discharged from the hospital and taken into custody. The reason for the conflict with the local residents of Makeev was a video on YouTube, on which a Russian shouted insults at the Mexicans, the attackers found his address in social networks.

After the incident, the police arrived, Makeev was severely beaten. Already in the hospital, a citizen of Russia was diagnosed with a “serious head injury”, he was transferred to a state of artificial coma, after which he spent several days in intensive care. On May 29, he was discharged from the hospital and placed in custody.
