OREANDA-NEWS. "In the Southern Ocean, a storm for the first time in a world tour turned over the boat of the traveler Fyodor Konyukhov", said the organizer of the expedition, Oscar Konyukhov.

“At 22.17, a message came from Fedor that the boat rolled over the side, made a 360-degree turn and got on an even keel”, said Konyukhov. According to the source, after good weather, the traveler’s rowing boat fell into a storm. He added that as a result of the incident, solar panels were partially disrupted. In addition, the windsock was broken, because of this, the traveler currently has no data on the strength and direction of the wind.

At first, storm didn't cause unrest (this is not very favorable for the boat on the oars, but Konyukhov usually coped with such conditions). However, it turned out that large waves came with him. Because of them, the boat overturned several times and again stood on an even keel.He was in the wheelhouse with battened down hatches and was not injured, but the wind indicator was damaged and the solar panels were torn off. Fully assess the scale of the problems will be possible only after the weather improves. It is known that the connection is not broken.

Earlier, on March 24, Konyukhov experienced a nine-point storm in the Pacific Ocean. According to his wife Irina, the traveler was in such conditions for the first time. In order to survive, he tied himself to the bottom of the boat and wrote short messages to his relatives every hour.

The route started on December 6, 2018 from the New Zealand city of Dunedin. The entire route (the port of Dunedin - Cape Horn (Chile) - Cape Lyuin (Australia) - the port of Dunedin) will be more than 16 thousand nautical miles (27 thousand km). The journey will end in New Zealand in 2020. February 6 Konyukhov traveled half way. After its completion, Konyukhov will become the first person to cross the waters of all three oceans washing Antarctica and go around Cape Horn on the Akros rowing boat.
