OREANDA-NEWS. The US military base Harrab al-Jayr in northeastern Syria has been hit by a missile attack, the Syrian news agency SANA has reported.

According to the publication, five rockets were fired at the US-operated airfield at Harrab al-Jayr base in al-Hasakah province. There was no information about material damage or casualties in the attack.

Agency sources said that US helicopters and airplanes were spotted flying in after the attack.

The US has been deploying troops to Syria since the start of the civil war in 2011. In May this year, Pentagon spokesman John Kirby said Washington would not withdraw its military from Syria as it continues to fight the Islamic State terrorist organisation banned in Russia.

Moscow has repeatedly said that the USA has not received permission from Damascus to send its forces. Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has also called the presence of the American military on its territory illegal.

In October, the US military base at Al-Tanf in southern Syria was hit by rocket fire and five drone strikes. According to Al Mayadeen TV, barracks and outbuildings were targeted and fires broke out in a number of places. There were no reports of casualties or injuries.
