OREANDA-NEWSThe United States continues to practice interference in Russia's internal affairs, but it is doomed to failure. This opinion was expressed on Tuesday by the head of the State Duma’s committee on international affairs Leonid Slutsky, commenting on the statements of the majority leader in the House of Spokesmans of the US Democrat, Steni Hoyer, regarding the rallies in Moscow.

"He called those detained in unauthorized protests" political prisoners, "whose" persecution "he said" should worry the world", Slutsky quoted the congressman as saying on his Facebook page.

According to the deputy, "the United States is the only state in the world that allows itself at the legislative level to invade the sovereignty of other countries". "But, Mr. Hoyer, I dare to assure you that in Russia all such Washington plans will fail. We will also counteract this at the legislative level", continued Slutsky, recalling that on August 19, the Duma Council is going to an emergency meeting to discuss the investigation facts of foreign interference in the internal affairs of the Russian Federation.

At the same time, Slutsky emphasized that “a political prisoner is Russian Maria Butina, who is serving a term in prison in the United States, and the world should have been alarmed for a long time by the impudent and undisguised line to establish American hegemony”. Earlier, opposition factions of the State Duma advocated investigating the interference, which, in their opinion, was made by a number of foreign media and diplomatic missions in the internal affairs of Russia, in particular, during unauthorized mass actions in Moscow. United Russia supported this initiative.

On Monday, State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin, after a working meeting with the chairman of the Duma Committee on Security and Anti-Corruption Vasily Piskarev, said that on August 19, the Council of the State Duma will urgently discuss the situation with foreign interference in the internal affairs of the Russian Federation.
