OREANDA-NEWS Experts have completed the restoration of vandal damaged painting "Ivan the Terrible and his son Ivan November 6, 1581" by Ilya Repin, reports TASS with reference to the press service of the State Tretyakov Gallery, said the material Gazeta.ru.

The restoration of the painting, which was created in 1885, has been called unique in Russian practice in terms of the scope and complexity of the work.

The attack on the canvas happened in 2018. In a state of alcoholic intoxication, the vandal jumped on the picture and hit the frame, shards of glass severely cut the canvas. Subsequently, the man explained that Repin, in his opinion, incorrectly depicted the historical event. Experts have estimated the damage in 10 million rubles, and the vandal was sentenced to 2.6 years in prison.

Previously it was reported that the subordinate institutions of the Ministry of culture will not participate in the experiment with the sale of alcohol in museums. The experiment will not operate in museums-reserves in the provision of catering services. In particular, the decision is connected with the incident with the Repin painting.
