OREANDA-NEWS Analysts of the Japanese research center Teikoku Databank reported that at least 71 Japanese companies as of May 2022 decided to leave the Russian market or suspend their activities in Russia because of the situation in Ukraine, writes TASS, Gazeta.ru.

As noted by Teikoku Databank, in the last month the number of such companies increased by 11. Until February 24, 168 companies from Japan were working in Russia.

Analysts emphasize that many companies are trying to keep the possibility of returning to Russia in case the situation in Ukraine changes. This is a fundamental difference in the approaches of Western and Japanese businesses.

Among major companies from Russia, Toyota Motor, Nissan Motor, Bridgestone, one of the world's largest tire manufacturers, and Uniqlo, a clothing chain, have left or suspended operations.

Earlier, on 19 May, the NHK daily quoted Prime Minister Fumio Kishida as saying that the Japanese authorities were preparing to provide Ukraine with another $300 million in financial aid for humanitarian needs.
