OREANDA-NEWS Turkey will support the accession of partially recognized Kosovo to NATO and the Council of Europe. According to Gazeta.ru, Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar stated that, according to the press service of the Defense Ministry of Kosovo.

Akar assured his colleague from Kosovo, Armende Mehaci, during the meeting in Ankara that Turkey supports the accession of Kosovo to NATO's Partnership for Peace program, the North Atlantic Alliance, the Council of Europe, as well as other regional organizations.

The Republic of Kosovo is a partially recognized state that declared its independence in 2008. According to the Serbian constitution, Kosovo's territory is part of Kosovo, which is part of the Autonomous Province of Kosovo and Metohija. However, de facto authorities of Serbia do not control Kosovo.

Earlier, Prime Minister of Kosovo Albin Kurti announced the republic's intention to join NATO.
