OREANDA-NEWSThe UK Supreme Court on Thursday finished hearing the arguments of the parties in the case of the sovereign debt of Ukraine to the Russian Federation, and will announce its decision in a few months. This was reported to the Russian media by a court representative. "The trial is completed", said a spokeswoman for the kingdom’s highest court of appeal. "At this stage, it's difficult to say when the decision will be announced, but it will take at least several months", she added.

In 2013, Russia bought Ukrainian Eurobonds for $ 3 billion at the expense of the National Wealth Fund. Ukraine was supposed to pay off the papers at the end of 2015, but the new government refused to repay the debt. At the moment, according to the Ministry of Finance of the Russian Federation, the amount of Russian claims on Ukraine, taking into account the accrued interest, has reached $ 4.5 billion.

In 2016, Russia filed a lawsuit in the High Court of London, which ordered Ukraine to pay $ 3 billion in repayment of Eurobonds plus interest. Kiev appealed against this decision. The Court of Appeal of England rejected three of the four arguments of Ukraine, on the basis of which it refuses to pay, but decided to hold a separate trial on one of the arguments according to which Ukraine issued Eurobonds under pressure from the Russian Federation.
