OREANDA-NEWSThe drafting group of the Syrian Constitutional Committee began work in Geneva on Monday. Its task is to prepare proposals for the new basic law of the country, which will then be submitted for approval by the committee. Members of the drafting group gathered at the Palais des Nations. Their arrival was witnessed by the press.

The editorial or small group of the committee consists of 45 experts - 15 each from the government, opposition and civil society of Syria. The coordination of the list of its participants was the main practical result of the first three days of the committee, which started on October 30. The group will work all this week. Then the experts will leave Geneva to gather again after a two-week break.

The Constitutional Committee included 150 delegates - 50 each from the government, opposition and civil society. On Friday, Special Envoy of the UN Secretary General for Syria Geir Pedersen praised the activities of this body during the first three days as very successful. Representatives of all three segments that make up the committee announced their commitment to constructive work.
