OREANDA-NEWS The Germans should be grateful to the Russians, since without them the unification of Germany would not have occurred. This was told by Vice-Chairman of the Bundestag Wolfgang Kubiki in an interview with ZDF.

In addition, the Russians were able to prevent gunfire and killings during the unification of East and West Germany. “Therefore, people understand that for what happened in Germany, they must thank the Russians,” said Kubiki, adding that Moscow and Berlin should reach mutual understanding through dialogue.

According to him, residents of the eastern part of the country are more sympathetic to Moscow, including because of the emotional side of the issue. “In those days, the Germans met many Russians, and established relations with them. And unlike those who lived in the West - and they were, as it were, aloof from all this - they understood how much damage Germany had done to Russia in both the First and Second World Wars, ”said the vice chairman of the Bundestag.
