OREANDA-NEWS. The European Union is ready to resist the «hybrid attack», for which the Belarusian authorities use migrants. This statement was made on Wednesday, September 15, by the head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen during her annual address to the European Parliament.

«The regime in Minsk uses human lives as a tool to achieve it's goals. They put these people on planes and literally «pushed» them to the borders of the EU. This cannot be tolerated, and the rapid reaction from Europe has shown this», the DW correspondent in Brussels quotes von der Leyen's speech.

According to the head of the European Commission, Minsk's actions are aimed at destabilizing the European Union. «Let's call spade a spade: this is a hybrid attack aimed at destabilizing Europe. We will never tolerate this», she stressed.

Von der Leyen also noted that Brussels will continue to support Lithuania, Latvia and Poland, which are faced with the problem of mass illegal migration from the Belarusian border. At the same time, the head of the European Commission pointed to the lack of unity within the EU on the issue of attitude to refugees. It is these differences that have made the European Union vulnerable to blackmail, from which the EU's geopolitical competitors and criminals engaged in people smuggling benefit, von der Leyen stressed.
