OREANDA-NEWS  The first case of coronavirus infection was detected in an athlete in a Paralympic village, said Masa Takaya, a spokeswoman of the Tokyo 2020 organizing committee.

The athlete, whose name is not specified, was placed on a 14-day quarantine. The organizing committee also plans to conduct an investigation to identify any person in contact with him to prevent the spread of infection.

"We expected that there would be a certain number of positive cases in the village. This particular person has been isolated, and then we will begin an investigation to establish who he is in close contact with. We cannot say that the risk will be zero but we can minimize it in accordance with the protocols of the Games", said Takaya, whose words are quoted by Inside the Games.
